Thursday, January 29, 2004today is another uneventful day. with reluctance i left my cosy room for class when it's really pouring outside and for some reason i want to keep my umbrella dry so i decided to take the long but dry route ard campus weavering ard the stairs n walkways before i reach my destination. when i reached, slightly panting n slightly late, i wondered do i really like my umbrella that much?on another note i managed to grab some time to read the required article for my tutorial mainly coz it isnt a boring paper on some dead sociologists but a online article about flash mobs. at least i get to read bout all the possible flash mobs ie. the altruistic mob, where a mob of pple can do something charitable in an underprivileged area like sweeping the streets for 5 min. the artistic mob, where there is a naked mob of 600 people who gathered on the initiative of the american artist Spencer Tunick . He has staged such installations in many parts of Europe and America, of coz not in Asia certainly. else they wil be caught for indecent exposure in public. and a huge collective one at that. yap. but there has been a flash mob right in singapore think in orchard area. my tutor posed this qn to us: will you join in a flash mob? well i saw some shaking of heads ard, well yeah most S'poreans are well.. law-abiding good citizens ok but frankly juz want to stay out of any potential trouble and stay in oblivion. after the usual silence that follows after a question posed to a class who cant wait for it to be over, she herself revealed that she will coz it wil be fun. then sitting from behind i could see the nodding of heads. hmm. well hope it's not the same people who shook their heads earlier. well that's also reflective of some S'poreans; they are easy swayed followers. well as for me, i neither nod or shake coz while i agree that it's fun to be part of a flash mob getting together with strangers n doing the same thing and then disappear. leaving others feeling huh but being as thin-skinned as i am there's no way of finding me doing something shocking (or stupid in most S'poreans view) in public. the first word that you will hear will definitely be "shen jin bing". i'm def not keen on that. amaranthine froze in time on 9:30 PM |
